Name: Amaru IP: 208.234.231.175 Subject: advice Email: lesufo@aol.com Website: http:// As some of you already know, i will be the interim webmaster for TexaSize until i go back to BYU. I am going to try to stay on as the webmaster while going to school. To this end i have started a letter give to the General Manager and the News Director which proposes my being the webmaster at a distance. As you all know, i am not the best writer so i am asking for you help. could you proof read my letter? of give me advice or whatever. I would greatly appreciate it. Leslie --the letter-- The purpose of this is to present my proposal for the job of Webmaster for TexaSize. I propose that I be hired on as the webmaster for TexaSize while I am attending Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. There are several advantages to this arrangement. First of all I will have worked here for 4 months by the time I leave for school and will have a fairly good working knowledge of the station. I will also have built up a good rapport with the various employees and department head of the station. Secondly I have knowledge in many web development applications and in web technologies. I can use Flash, and am currently learning Fireworks, Freehand, and DreamWeaver. I can also use a simple text editor to edit the html code directly. I have done a fair amount of cgi programming, as well as learning php and mySql. Any technology or application that I can not currently use I would be more than willing to learn. Thirdly I can work on a contract basis. This would be of great benefit to the station, as I would not require any benefits. Furthermore I would be able to work for a smaller salary than an on-site webmaster. Contracts could be handled on a bi-weekly or monthly basis so that if you decide to go with a local webmaster, my services could be quickly terminated. There are if course disadvantages. The main one is distance. As I will be 1000 miles away, it would be difficult to orchestrate a quick update. Communication would consist of e-mail and phone calls. The delay in receiving these could potentially cause a problem. Currently I check my e-mail many times each day. Also the phone system at BYU allows messages to be checked from anywhere on campus. I plan on purchasing a laptop when I get enough money and with this I will be able to check my e-mail while on campus and away from my dorm. With the laptop I will also be able to make changes to the web page from on campus. Until I get a laptop I would be able to use one of the many computer labs across campus. Because of my class schedule I will not be available in the mornings. However my current schedule has my last class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday ending at 1pm (2pm Lubbock time) and on Tuesday, and Thursday ending at 11 am (12 noon Lubbock time). Another potential problem would be my class workload. I do not foresee this as being a problem as I have allowed the entire afternoon and evening of each day for work time. I believe this time would be sufficient for not only my class work but also the responsibilities of being the webmaster. There are many web sites that are maintained this way. Most webmasters rarely see their client whom they are building the page for. These webmasters work with their clients through the use of e-mail and phone calls. I have enjoyed my time working with TexaSize so far and would like to continue working with the station although I will be far away. thanks.
