Email: zapp_ronin@hotmail.com Website: http:// Well, not only do most of your criticisms not make sense, but it is also obvious that YOU didn't read the majority of my post... and here you are criticizing me about not understanding people's comments. Remove the log from your eye, my son.To address your points: You said: "you said that pc's were more "portable" You obviously arent thinking in the same sense that Joe was. He meant that you can pick up a console system and move it much easier than you can a pc." This is true. I was thinking in terms of software portability from one operating system to another. However, to address further the issue of physical transportation and setup - what about laptops? I know that games aren't the best on them yet, but it shows that it CAN be easy to transport / setup a computer. Also, consider NCs. They are basically terminal style computers (no hard drive, I believe - just receive information from somewhere else. Several companies, including the one John is currently working at, are pushing NCs for internet access and for other reasons. I would propose that the will be used for gameplay at some point as well.). You said: "Also, just because you present an argument in logical terms dosn't mean that your logic was correct. Your father has tought me at least that much. I would argue that in your argument you make quite a lot of assumptions of what pc and console systems will be. That is not what was asked. What is better now? It's pretty useless to say that pc's are better because twenty years from now they "will" be better. You don't know anything about the way pc's or console systems will evolve. More importantly, you CAN'T know anything about how they will evolve. At least not to the extent you claim." Well, this paragraph was frustrating, because you apparently didn't understand my argument at all. And trust me, I think I know the logic that my father teaches. No need to provoke me with that. Anyway, I wasn't basing my decision that PC is better because of how they will be, as you claim. I merely brought that up at something to discuss further. Sorry if it was confusing. What about what I DID bring up to maintain that PCs are better now? You didn't address any of those. Just pointing out my mistakes with no alternative. Quibbling. Anyway, to condense it for you (even though these were underlined in the original post), here are my main reasons for being pro-PC: * More games are available for PC than for all console platforms combined. * PCs have a much better input interface than any console system in that the sheer magnitude of inputs is much, much greater. Also, the number of TYPES of possible input (keyboard, joysticks, VR, etc.) far exceeds that of any console system. More input possibilities = more involved games = better in some cases. * Single / multi player environments are better on PC. One argument for this is that any console gaming environment can be created for PC, but not vice versa. E.g., you can play Tekken style games on PC, but not counterstrike style games on PSX / PS2. In short, anything made for console platform can (and often is) made for PC in a superior form. The only thing preventing PCs from taking over the game market entirely is advertising / corporate "loyalty" and system cost. But consider how much all your console games cost altogether as well as your TV and speakers... hmm... * Customizability. Console games are severely limited in that they cannot be expanded beyond their original design. Again, half-life or quake and their many mods show the importance of customizability in the success of a good game. Those are most of my basic reasons. Briefly: Why don't we ditch console gaming altogether and work solely on PC gaming as a culture? 1) Advertising / corporate loyalty. 2) Sometimes console game designers think of the good ideas first. 3) Present cost of PC systems. 4) Present difficulty / learning curve associated with running PC games well. 5) Present lack of a popular multiplayer same-machine setup for PC. This could be made so easily, though. And you said that I can't know how the computer industry will evolve? BS. Not only is my major all about the computer industry, but I will be part of the computer industry someday. As for right now, I'm learning what I can and trying to keep up. Oh my my, oh hell yes - honey put on that party dress.-Z
